Michael McGowan is a seasoned real estate professional with 30 years of experience in both public and private real estate investing. Michael began working for Bard Consulting in 2016, assisting in the evaluation of fund performance and market conditions in Asia.
Between 2009 and April 2016, Michael was Portfolio Manager of the Forward International Real Estate Fund, a public mutual fund invested primarily in European and Asian real estate investment trusts (REITs). In this capacity he spent much of his time overseas, meeting with the executive management and on-site staff of several hundred global REITs and personally visiting several thousand properties. In 2013, Michael won the Lipper Award for Best Performing International Real Estate Fund. From 2005 to 2009, Michael was a REIT analyst and Portfolio Manager for Kensington Investment Group, where he analyzed and invested in both domestic and overseas REITs.
Prior to his career in public real estate, Michael worked for RREEF (now Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management) as the Head of Research: Industrial and Office Properties. From 1995 to 2005, he assisted in the underwriting of market conditions for the acquisition and valuation of more than $5 billion of U.S. properties for pension fund clients. Before then, Michael was a Principal of The Valuations Group (1991-1995), providing independent analyses of public and private Real Estate Limited Partnerships and other non-traded securities to institutional, corporate, and individual clients. Michael began his career in real estate as a securities analyst for The Liquidity Fund (1986-1991).
Michael’s areas of expertise include extensive knowledge of both public and private real estate markets and property valuations. He has developed a granular knowledge of real property assets in leading international cities as well as a macro understanding of global economic drivers and trends.
